Why these articles?

Like so many newbie fundraisers, my first assignment was “go raise money!”

Exciting, but not super helpful. Through trial and error, I eventually learned what fundraisers are supposed to do. If only I knew now what I should have known then! These articles are meant to give a running start to anyone new in the role.

Fundraising & culture

Fundraising supports culture. By assisting those closest to us we grow in community and learn more about who we are and what we care about. Asking for money can be the key to helping someone realize their life’s mission. It’s beautiful work.

Who am I?

For the past 12 years I’ve worked on the fundraising efforts of The Heights School in Potomac, MD, in areas of annual giving, major gifts, planned gifts, capital campaigns, events, and alumni.
